Accidents Happen!

accident | noun |  an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury.
Accidents can happen to anyone – you, me, the guy next door.  Sometimes they are minor and sometimes severe. They are, in fact, unfortunate and unplanned.  Recently, I worked with a client who had a serious accident and had to have a limb removed.  I went to the hospital, to help the patient to quit smoking.  Instead of mourning the loss of limb, I was told about the technological advances available today and the incredible prosthetic they would have.  This person’s amazing courage and outlook, left me inspired.

In order for the body to heal properly, after an accident of this magnitude, its circulation needs to be good.  A smoker would have a difficult time healing, from their injury, and more damage could occur.  It’s important to take care of our circulation system!   This client, like many smokers,  had tried to stop smoking many times in the past, including, pills, patches, gums, only to continue smoking.  Hypnosis was the solution.  A nice added bonus was the ability to relax for the first time since the surgery.

If you or someone you know has been struggling with trying to stop smoking, have them call Albany Hypnosis Center at 518-275-7388 to schedule a free hypnosis screening.

Completely Confident!

Completely Confident

Get completely confident with Albany Hypnosis Center! Call 518-275-7388 to find out how.

You’ve been waiting for this day to come. You’ve practiced, rehearsed, prepared everything. You know your stuff, so, why are your body and mind responding this way? When you feel fear or worry about your performance, your body releases hormones to prepare for extreme stress. We know this as the fight or flight response. Adrenaline is released and flowing through your blood, causing your heart to beat faster and your breathing to increase so that you can pump that oxygenated blood to your muscles to give you extra strength and speed so you can fight or run away from danger.
However, when you don’t need that extra strength to battle or increased speed to help you escape, there isn’t an outlet for this adrenaline and energy. Within seconds, your hands and knees begin to shake, and your muscles tense up including your throat muscles making it difficult to speak. Your heart is pounding and your breathing is so fast you are practically hyperventilating. Your face becomes flush and you feel like you are on fire. The stomach acids rushes into your stomach and you feel like you are going to throw up. Then the mind starts filling you with self-doubt. All the ‘what ifs’ begin to fill your thoughts and sabotage you. However, it doesn’t have to be this way.

Recently, I had the pleasure of holding a Completely Confident seminar in Chicago. We talked about fear, what it does to us and how it is really an illusion. The group learned some breathing exercises and EFT (aka Tapping) for moments when their fear tries to get the best of them. They were very responsive and enjoyed learning about hypnosis and how it reframes those self-criticizing thoughts into positive, motivating beliefs, giving them the “I Can!” state of mine. The attendees were primarily musicians, however, everyone could benefit from confidence building. Perhaps you need to give presentations to management at work, or to prospective clients promoting new products. The point is, it is difficult to be successful without confidence.

Now, see yourself confident, feeling good, knowing you have something to share that people want to hear. Your breathing is calm, steady, and your energy is excitement to share your skill, your knowledge, your talent with others. You know what to do and how to do it. You feel in control. You ARE in control, calm and confident.

What if you could…Speak in Public?

Public speaking is one of the most popular fears.  I’ve had clients tell me they would take the spiders and snakes over speaking in public any day.  Clients have described some of the symptoms as increased heart rate, increased perspiration, shallow breathing, tightness in their chest or neck muscles, shaking hands or knees, inability to think clearly or speak clearly.  With hypnosis clients have been able to overcome these fears, learn to relax and build their confidence and self esteem.

What if you could speak in public?  Many jobs require speaking in groups within their company, could be small groups giving presentations to 5-6 people up to large groups with hundreds of people listening to what you have to say.   If you are selling product or services you may have to give presentations on the benefits of that product or service to potential customers.  If you are self-employed, you probably do this on a regular basis!  If you are unemployed and trying to find a job, you may find that you need to sell yourself to more than a single interviewer at a time.  Group interviews are not uncommon.

How could being able to speak in public improve your life?  For more information, contact Albany Hypnosis Center at 518-275-7388!

Warm foods for cold days!!

As the weather gets cooler, some of us prefer warmer foods.  Here are a couple of beautiful recipes to keep you warm while enjoying the wonderful flavors in healthy meals!

Grilled Fruit

  • Peaches, Nectarines or Plums, cut in half and pits removed
  • Coconut Oil

Brush cut halves with coconut oil and place cut side down on a heated grill or pan if you don’t have an indoor grill like a Foreman or a grill pan.  Cook for about 5 minutes then turn and cook another 2-3 minutes.

Optional: Sprinkle a very small amount of cinnamon on cut fruit before brushing with the coconut oil!

This makes a great breakfast!

Crock Pot Chicken and Mushrooms

  • 4 Boneless Skinless Chicken breasts
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 12 oz pkg of fresh sliced mushrooms, washed
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 1/2 Tbs fresh parsley, chopped

Add all to crock pot in order listed (ex. sprinkle the seasonings evenly over the chicken breasts).  Cook for 6 hours.  Remove the lid and cook for 20 mins to thicken the sauce.

Optional: You may use a little arrowroot powder to thicken sauce by first, removing a half a cup of the liquid and letting it cool, then whisk in 1 Tbs of arrowroot powder till lumps are gone.  Then stir back into crock pot and cook 10-15 mins longer.

This is great served with a side of fresh steamed broccoli!

My husband loved this so much he asked if we could have it once a week!

Got the rainy day blues?

Here in Albany, we are under a flood warning until Saturday.  I think we have only had a couple of days of beautiful sunshine in the past two weeks.  I’m hearing many people talk about being tired of the rain and how down it makes them feel.

I started thinking about all the songs involving rain.  The first that came to mind was “Here Comes the Rain Again” by the Eurythmics.  But certainly, once I began to think, songs like CCR’s “Who’ll Stop the Rain” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain”,  B.J. Thomas’ “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on my head”, The Fortunes’ “Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again”,  and who could help but sing along with the Carpenters,  the line “Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.”?   I admit, I belt out the lyrics with Prince to “Purple Rain” or Guns N’ Roses to “November Rain”.  Led Zeppelin’s “Fool in the Rain” is another great rain tune.  There are so many songs out there that capture the down feelings that rain brings.

While we are waiting for the sun to shine again, here are some things we can do that we may otherwise be too busy to do because we would rather be outside:

  • Curl up and read a book.  Pick one that is not work related, but is just for fun!
  • Cook a fancy meal.
  • Bake cookies.
  • Paint, draw or color – tap into your visual creativity!
  • Listen to some music. YouTube has just about everything you can think of.
  • Watch a good movie.  I recommend A&E’s Pride and Prejudice.
  • Play games, Yahtzee anyone?!
  • Paint your toenails.
  • Call a friend you haven’t talked to in years
  • Move the furniture in the living room, turn up the dance tunes and shake a tail feather!

Before you know it, you may be enjoying that rainy day.  I came across a couple songs with rain that don’t make rain out to be so gloomy, such as “Let it rain” with Eric Clapton, “Laughter in the rain” Neil Sedaka, “Singing in the rain” by Gene Kelly and Eddie Rabbit’s “I love a rainy night”.

What are your favorite rainy day activities and songs?
